🟡 PRC Community Update – July 2025 Building Back. Building Smart. Building Together. As Pacific Palisades moves through the long arc of recovery, the Palisades Recovery Coalition (PRC) continues to serve as a coordinating hub for rebuilding logistics, neighborhood engagement, and resilience planning. Here’s what we’ve been working on—and what’s ahead: |
🏘️ Alphabet Streets Visioning Charrette: A Model of Engagement A full house of more than 80 neighbors gathered to participate in the latest PRC-led visioning charrette focused on the Alphabet Streets. Facilitated by RAND researchers, including a Palisadian Nobel Laureate who lost his home, this session built on Marquez’s successful charrette and continues shaping a resilient, community-aligned rebuilding roadmap. See the preliminary report here. AECOM project lead and the lead engineer on water infrastructure were also present, as well as staff from the offices of elected officials, Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA (with a project already underway in the Palisades), and Volunteer Architects of America. See video footage on our Youtube page. 👥 Comeback Club: Keeping Everyone in Mind as we Recover Our latest Comeback Club featured Sergeant Tilden (LAPD) and Arus from CD11, who shared important updates on public safety and local governance. These meetings are an essential venue for repopulating residents to exchange experiences, raise concerns, and support each other as we rebuild homes and lives. Mark your calendars: Next Comeback Club August 28th. 📩 Policy in Action: SB 9 Pushback Both Councilwoman Traci Park and PPCC sent letters to Governor Newsom urging a pause in the application of SB 9 to our fire-impacted areas, with the goal of protecting neighborhood character and allowing time for intentional community-driven rebuilding, while we develop better evacuation techniques and build back the neighborhoods we lost. See Councilwoman’s letter. 💧 Infrastructure Update: Santa Ynez Reservoir Restored LADWP has confirmed that the Santa Ynez Reservoir is now back in service, having been refilled with 45 million gallons of water. The reservoir remains securely covered, and the water is safely contained beneath the cover—an important step for our resilience and safety. 💵 LADBS Refund Portal Now Live If you or your neighbors incurred permit-related fees that are now eligible for return, please use and share the LADBS refund application portal: 👉 https://dbs.lacity.gov/apply-refund 🎨 Public Art for Village Green: Community Input Requested The Village Green Board is in discussions with philanthropic benefactors—former Palisadians—who have offered to fund a public art installation to commemorate our shared tragedy and recovery. This project is intended to honor the community, respect the tragedy of the fires and look to the rebuilt future through something beautiful, inspiring and additive. If you’d like to learn more or give feedback, join the zoom presentation to learn more. 🗓 Zoom Presentation: Thursday, July 31 at 5PM 📧 RSVP by emailing your name and contact info to: info@palisadesvillagegreen.org Village Green will send a Zoom link and presentation access. 🏛️ Policy Update: Executive Order 8 Signed by Mayor Bass Mayor Karen Bass has signed Executive Order 8, streamlining permitting for wildfire-affected homes. This applies even if the rebuilt home exceeds 10% of the original footprint, as long as it meets the following: Is a single-family home Resides within the coastal zone Meets current building code Respects 10 ft from a canyon bluff or 25 ft from a coastal bluff This is a significant development for our recovery community—especially those who did not wish to rebuild small homes in a like-for-like manner.
