Our fourth visioning Charrette is in the books— this one focussed our bluffs communities – thank you to every neighbor, volunteer, and partner engaging, concern, sharing ideas, talking through challenges and showing up for a rebuild that’s safer and swifter. See below for a preview of what we heard.
Next up: Tuesday, Sept 30, meet Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin at PRC (15224 Sunset Blvd.). RSVP: info@PaliRecovery.org.
We’re moving from emergency mode to rebuild mode—together. Our north star is simple: swift, safe, resilient, and connected. Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve been up to (and what’s next): |
🔎 Preview Report: Bluffs Visioning Charrette (Session 4) Our Bluffs Visioning Charrette brought neighbors together to map a smarter, safer rebuild—and the message was clear: neighbors want more local control, faster and smarter rebuilding, and insurance that actually works, and we’re ready to organize to get it done. In table-by-table brainstorms, residents pushed for right-sized firefighting tools, stricter brush-clearance enforcement, wider pool-pump access, and clear, community-driven plans that tie state policy to on-the-ground action. We flagged gaps—from reservoir access to tech like heat sensors and photo reporting—and named the path forward: neighborhood collectives coordinating preparedness and emergency response while PRC advances financing, policy, and transparency. Preview the quick report of what we heard—and stay tuned for the more detailed final report. Join us in October to help shape the next charrette. |
🛡️ Community Advisory Group Security CallSee the RECAP of an important Community Advisor Group Video Call with LAPD, CHP, LAFD Brush, and USACE for the last time as they wind up their operations in Pacific Palisades. They reported:USACE restored Will Rogers State Historic Park and returned it to State Parks—marking substantial completionof their Palisades mission. Altadena Golf Course restoration continues through fall (target handoff late Dec ’25). Team is closing remaining homeowner items with LA County Public Works.CHP checkpoints wind down by month’s end; routine patrols continue where applicable. Speed limits restored along PCH – only reducedNorth of Sunset on PCH as that stretch is still deemed an ‘active construction zone’. LAPD notes a slight uptick in property crime, esp. thefts from unlocked construction trucks/trailers. Deterrents added: decoy cars + an LPR trailer at Los Leones. (But still down from last year and 60 crimes reported in total since April. See SLO Brian Espin’s crime report.)Job-site actions (please share with crews):🧱 Fence/gate sites & post “24-hr video” signs💡 Motion lights on gates, laydown yards, drive approaches📷 Temporary site cameras (pole-mounted OK); consider LPR where appropriate📶 No internet? Use a 5G/LTE hotspot so cameras record to the cloud🔒 Lock vehicles every time; remove keys/fobs; no tools visibleBrush clearance: Standing homes must maintain clearance; burned lots don’t need to clear this until a new structure is within 200 ft. (new structure means anything in the framing stage or beyond). Zone Zero enforcement awaits state guidance. All calls have summaries prepared by PRC that were sent to the community. Contact us if you’d like to see those again. |

☕ Breakfast with Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin — Tue, Sept 30 (2025), 9:30–11:30 AM at PRC HQ (15224 Sunset Blvd, pacific Palisades) Policy & Resilience Briefing Join PRC for a morning conversation with Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin on the front lines of our rebuild. We’ll dig into brush-land clearance (and how the state plans to enforce it), pathways to Prop 4 funding, practical home-hardening tactics, and her leadership in fixing Zone Zero’s one-size-fits-all approach. We’ll also discuss construction staging areas and a coordinated recovery structure to keep projects moving. Wildfires aren’t going away—come help shape the state and local solutions that make the Palisades safer, more insurable, and truly resilient. RSVP: info@PaliRecovery.org. |
🏗️ New Resource: PRC recommended months ago that homeowners lease cleared lots to licensed contractors for on-site staging (and, where appropriate, weekday worker housing)—cutting costs, improving security, speeding schedules, and taking trips off our roads. For families facing an insurance funding gap, these leases can provide bridge income until rebuilding begins. Good news: PaliBuilds—kudos to Frank Renfro—now offers a simple interface to match Palisades lots with builders (as seen in Westside Current). See our Plan which include ideas around:🚚 Short-haul deliveries + fewer in-out trips → less traffic, lower cost🔐 On-site storage under lights/cameras → better security⏱️ Faster schedules with nearby inventory and crews💵 Bridge income for owners facing an insurance gap before rebuilding |
