Last week marked a major step forward in the Palisades recovery, with the return of the Palisades Farmers Market, now every Wednesday from 1:30–5 PM on Swarthmore, and, of course, the much-anticipated reopening of Palisades Village.
This week, the momentum continues. There’s plenty happening across our resilient town, including three events you won’t want to miss this weekend—from our Sunday Candidate Meet & Greet, to community cleanups, to celebrations bringing neighbors together. The Palisades is coming back—and there are more reasons every week to come out, reconnect and be part of it…

The Palisades Farmers Market Is Back!
A wonderful milestone for our community! The Palisades Farmers Market returns Wednesday, August 19, along Swarthmore at Palisades Village. Join us for the ribbon cutting at 1:30 PM, with Councilwoman Traci Park and special guests, followed by the market beginning at 2 PM. Come out, shop local and celebrate another great step forward for the Palisades!

Community Recovery Lab #2: “Resilience”
Two days to shape the Palisades’ future.
Help Shape a the way we Rebuild in a More Resilient Way
How we rebuild now will help determine how well the Palisades withstands the next wildfire. Residents need to be part of that conversation.
PRC’s Community Recovery Lab on Wildfire Resilience brings residents and experts together for two Saturdays of learning, discussion and structured deliberation—focused on one central question: What can we do, collectively, to make the Palisades safer and more resilient?
Participants will hear from experts, examine the choices and tradeoffs before us, and work together to develop community-driven recommendations around wildfire resilience and our rebuilt environment.
This is not a town hall or another presentation. It is a working session, and residents are an essential part of the work. You don’t need technical

You don’t need to be a policy expert.
You just need to bring your experience as a Palisadian.
PRC Launches Recovery Talks!

PRC Launches Recovery Talks: Maximizing Your Post-Fire Casualty-Loss Deduction
PRC hosted our inaugural Recovery Talk this past Tuesday, launching a new series that brings experts on specific issues that can make a meaningful difference in our recovery.
Last week Derek Myron, CFP®, Managing Director and Founder of Centura Wealth Advisory, led an informative discussion on how fire survivors may be able to maximize the tax deduction associated with casualty losses to their property following the Palisades Fire.
The conversation focused not only on identifying and substantiating the full extent of a casualty loss, but also on an important question for homeowners: how best to use that deduction once it is established. Depending on individual circumstances, that can mean considering whether to consume the deduction in a single tax year or use it strategically over time. Mr. Myron explained why this may matter to more Palisadians than many realize. A casualty loss is not necessarily limited to families whose homes were destroyed. Homeowners with standing properties may also have experienced significant fire-related loss in value, making it important to understand what may qualify and how that loss can be documented.
The evening was exactly what we hope Recovery Talks will provide: an opportunity to take an important recovery topic, bring in someone with deep expertise, and give residents the time and setting to really understand it, ask questions and consider how it applies to their own recovery.
Recovery Talks will recur monthly. If you have a topic you’s like us to explore or expertise you think our community should hear from: Email info@palirecovery.org.

Coming up this Sunday:

NOT TO BE MISSED:
Candidates Come to the Palisades This Sunday!
Our Candidate Meet & Greet returns this Sunday, August 23, from 11 AM–2 PM—and we have an exceptional lineup of candidates coming to speak directly with Palisadians.
From the Los Angeles mayoral race, to the contests for State Senate and State Assembly, to several important judicial races, candidates are coming to 15233 La Cruz Drive to meet our community, hear what matters to us, answer questions and make their case for your vote.
PRC’s format is intentionally different: no endorsements, no gatekeeping and no scripted forum. It’s an open mic and an open invitation to candidates—a chance for residents to meet the people asking to represent us, hear from them directly, ask questions and engage one-on-one.
And this Sunday, Espresso Express will be on site with the coffee cart! Come grab a coffee, meet your neighbors and spend some time getting to know the candidates and the choices ahead.
Recovery is about rebuilding our homes and our community—and making sure the Palisades has a strong voice in the decisions that shape our future.

Rebuilding? Know the Rules.
Rebuilding Responsibly: Construction Rules & Enforcement

As rebuilding accelerates across the Palisades, LA has some guidelines:
The City of LA and LAPD are reminding residents, contractors and construction crews that the City is actively enforcing rules around illegal dumping, construction debris, street and sidewalk obstructions, damage from heavy equipment, and improper storage of building materials.
With so much construction underway—and much more ahead—keeping our streets safe, accessible and clean is part of rebuilding our community well.
Please share with your contractor, neighbors and anyone actively rebuilding.
New Rebuilding Resources: Free Design Help + A New Financing Pathway
Two important new resources for Palisades homeowners working toward rebuilding.

A New $20 Million Pathway to Rebuilding:
An important new financing option is coming for Pacific Palisades and Eaton fire survivors who want to rebuild but may no longer qualify for traditional mortgage or construction financing.
Lendistry Home Loans has announced a $20 million Disaster Recovery Mortgage Pilot, developed with $15 million in seed capital from Bank of America and $5 million from the California Community Foundation.
The program was designed around the financial realities fire survivors are facing now—including lower income, higher debt needs because of escalating construction costs, limited liquidity, and financing gaps that traditional lending may not accommodate.
The new construction lending product is designed to:
• Offer lower liquidity requirements and greater flexibility in cash-flow underwriting
• Help fill financing gaps and get rebuilding started ahead of potential insurance or settlement payouts
• Support rebuilding that includes ADUs, duplexes and triplexes alongside a primary residence
• Require qualifying homes to meet IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home Plus standards, helping families rebuild more resiliently
The pilot comes as California launches its new $100 million Disaster Rebuilding Assistance Program, designed to provide loan-loss guarantees and reduced interest rates for impacted homeowners.
Applications are expected to open in early fall 2026, and the program is being announced now so homeowners have time to understand the requirements and prepare.
Learn about the Disaster Recovery Mortgage Pilot and sign up for application updates
Homeowners who aren’t yet ready for financing can also access step-by-step rebuilding guidance through The Center by Lendistry’s LA Rebuild Hub.
