Highlights
To kick off August, PRC hosted a 3-day mosaic workshop with Palisadian artist Kate Samuels. Residents who attended learned how to cut ceramic, glass, and mirrors, glue, and grout their pieces together for a healing session dedicated to taking broken pieces and stitching them back together in a creation of resilience and beauty.

In July, we hosted our first Candidate Meet and Greet event. And you’re invited to round two on Sunday, August 23rd.
Palisadians got the chance to hear directly from candidates across races, including Maria Ghobadi, Donna Tryfman, David Ross, and Anna Slotky Reitano (Superior Court judicial candidates); Marissa Roy and John McKinney (LA City Attorney); John Erickson (State Senate 24); Ted Nordblum and Deborah Klein Lopez (State Assembly 42); and Ben Allen and Jane Kim (Insurance Commissioner).
RSVP is not required, but encouraged.

In the spirit of new ideas, PRC’s first Recovery Talk takes place this Tuesday, August 11th, from 5-7 PM. Food and wine provided!
Brad from Centura Consulting Services will speak to Palisadians about casualty loss tax relief for victims of natural disasters.
Since the Palisades Fire is a federally declared disaster, losses may be deductible if they were not covered by insurance under IRC 165.
Two Emergency Preparedness Trainings This Month
Emergency Radio 101 — Tuesday, 8/18, 5:30–7:30pm at the PRC HQ (15233 La Cruz Drive):
- Learn the basics of walkie-talkie communication as a backup for when cell service goes down.
- No experience needed — practice radios provided.
Emergency Preparedness Training: RYLAN & Go Bags — Saturday, 8/29, 9:30am–2pm at Pali Hub (15239 La Cruz Drive)
- Morning: Ready Your LA Neighborhood (RYLAN) — a 9-step framework for what to do right after a disaster, led by LA Emergency Management Coordinator Rick Pope
- Afternoon: Go-bag prep for work, car, and travel, led by CERT Battalion 9’s Patric Cohen

Join Resilient Palisades’ Power Up Palisades team for a hands-on info session on Saturday, September 12, from 2-5pm at the Palisades Recovery Coalition Hub (15233 La Cruz Drive).
Meet vetted solar installers, get your questions answered, and get help filling out your program intake form on the spot, no need to have it all figured out beforehand, just come as you are.
New State Program in the Works: Disaster Rebuilding Assistance Program
The Governor’s Office and CalHFA (California’s state housing finance agency) have announced a new Disaster Rebuilding Assistance Program (DRAP) to help disaster-impacted homeowners access financing to rebuild.
Right now, CalHFA is enrolling lenders who want to participate — this is the first step before the program opens to homeowners. If you know a lender who may be interested, encourage them to apply.
